Services

I offer three types of editing services to help you to achieve your best written work. I have outlined below what my development editing, copy-editing and proofreading services involve, but your work may need a level of editing that is somewhere in between proofreading and copy-editing, for example. Please contact me to discuss your document or project directly.

Development editing At this stage of editing I work with you as the author when your text is in draft form. We focus on the project as a whole and what you are trying to achieve. My input will help you to shape your document and make sure that it is factually correct and relevant to your target audience.

Copy-editing – For this service I will go through your written document in detail to make sure the layout is consistent, headings and sub-headings are used sensibly and to check the style, language and sentence structure is appropriate.

Proofreading – Errors can be introduced into any written document along the path from its conception to publication. Whether you have written text for a website, compiled a programme booklet for an event or produce a newsletter for a local charity, I can help you to polish the text and make your document sound more attractive to your readers. The proofreading service is applicable if your document is a ‘final’ version.

Documents

Here are some examples of the different types of documents on which I have worked in an editing capacity.

Textbooks – I relish the opportunity of helping to shape educational materials. I work with publishers on GCSE and A-level textbooks in a development capacity to ensure the syllabus is covered correctly and thoroughly. I am also experienced in copy-editing and proofreading textbooks and workbooks from early primary level through to International Baccalaureate diploma level.

Newsletters – I am experienced in both writing and editing content for an array of newsletters. However big your organisation, it is important that your news is written in a clear and engaging manner to keep your readers interested.

Websites – In this digital world, your website is likely to be the first point of contact for your customers. It is therefore vital that you create a good impression and iron out any inconsistencies, spelling mistakes and formatting errors in your text. I often find that a level of editing between proofreading and copyediting – known as proof-editing – is suitable for websites.
